Describe something you will never fully understand.

 I will never fully understand the thought processes of others. Critical thinking seems like a basic skill to obtain, especially as someone in the later years of their teenage life, but everyday I am proven wrong and left highly confused. I always take my way of thinking, whether that be about how to solve a personal problem or trying to show empathy towards others, and I assume that other people think the same way that I do, doing what is logical in a situation while also preserving yourself and not harming others in any way. That is not the case for many individuals, however, and it will never cease to amaze me. But whenever I do recognize that someone may be thinking about something a different way than me, I am patient with them as I try to see where they are coming from. 

Today in class we went over our classmate's origin myths. I learned that our class is filled with many creatively unique people with their own individual ideas that helped them to create the myth that they presented today.

 The vocabulary word that I find most resonates with me personally is "livid." I have heard the word and experienced the feeling all throughout my childhood as well as my life now. I was what people think of as the "angry daughter" of the family. The smallest thing would make me absolutely lose my mind. Absurdity

 A time when I felt a little absurd was the time when I jumped 1.5 meters on horseback unprepared and in improper equipment. It was late at night and I was doing a "hack ride" which is where you just do ground work (walk, trot, canter, etc) and not do any jumps. I was being watched by my mother who, for a split second, looked away and I ran with the horse over two 1.5 meter jumps back to back. I almost fell off and got extremely injured, my lack of preparation could have put my physical well-being in jeopardy. I needed to properly warm up and warn the people coaching me before attempting to pull a stunt like that again. Today in class we discussed different levels of absurdity and how that can look different when applied to different topics, you have to look at the process and work that goes into something before you can judge how "absurd" something truly is.

After watching the short film Identity, write a blog post reflecting on how the masks in the film represent the pressure to fit in and the struggle to discover who you really are. Choose one moment from the film that stood out to you and explain why. Then, connect the film’s message to Langston Hughes’ poem “I, Too” and to the mask you are creating in class. What part of your identity do you want your mask to reveal?

 The masks represent covering up your true identity for the sake of fitting in with the norms that society have set in place. "Masking who you are." When you've had to go most of your life trying to be like everyone else, it is difficult to condition yourself out of that and be true to yourself. But once you discover who you are and what you want, there is no going back. One moment that stood out to me was when she went out without her mask, figuring out who she was, and everyone who still had masks on turned their heads to stare at her, as if someone expressing individuality was such a foreign concept to them. The film's message connects to the poem because both discuss topics of somewhat being shunned for being different. The part of my identity that I want my mask to reveal are the things that make me, me. parts of my life that have shaped how I am now.
