In 2–3 well-developed sentences, reflect on how you spent your Holiday Break. Then, identify four personal you would like to achieve this year and briefly explain why each goal is important to you

I spent most of my break in bed or cleaning when I wasn't spending time with family and friends. One moment that stood out to me during break was when my brother and I went out with 4 of our friends to a music show, it was a bonding experience since most of us had never been in that sort of environment before.

The first goal that I want to achieve this year is to begin therapy. This goal is important to me because I need an outlet where I can get my thoughts and feelings in order in a healthy and efficient way. In order to accomplish this goal, I will contact different institutions that offer therapy for minors and wait for one of them to message me about times to meet with me. By March 2026, I should have successfully gotten in contact with a therapist and gotten into the routine of going to therapy.

The second goal that I want to achieve this year is to improve my health. This goal is important to me because it is inconvenient to have almost every aspect of my life be affected by something I have little to no control over at the moment. To accomplish this goal, I will go to multiple different specialists to run blood tests to figure out which areas of my health need to be specifically assessed until it is no longer an issue of mass importance. My hope for this goal is to be in almost perfect health by December 2026.

The third goal I hope to reach this year is to get my name legally changed. This goal is important to me because a name change symbolizes a new identity in a way, and I have not gone by my legal name in almost 4 years. To accomplish this goal I will contact my local courthouse and figure out where my official documents need to go in order to get the change completed, after I turn 18 in July 2026 I hope to rush that process and have it be officiated by October 2026.

The fourth goal I hope to accomplish this year is to get a B average in all of my classes. This goal is important to me because I have high expectations for my life after graduation, and having good grades will help me get to where I desire to be. To accomplish this goal, I will prioritize school above most things that might take my time away from the focus of academics. Every day I will write and review a paragraph about what I learned in each of my classes so I stay familiar with the material. This goal should be completed and official in May 2026 when the semester ends.

In class today we worked on writing out the goals written above, this helps us reflect on what we want out of our year and helps set a timeline to accomplish the goals we have written out.

After watching the short film Identity, write a blog post reflecting on how the masks in the film represent the pressure to fit in and the struggle to discover who you really are. Choose one moment from the film that stood out to you and explain why. Then, connect the film’s message to Langston Hughes’ poem “I, Too” and to the mask you are creating in class. What part of your identity do you want your mask to reveal?
